Areas of Work: Gender Segregated Facilities

Trans and gender gender non-conforming people face severe access problems when it comes to gender-segregated facilities like bathrooms, locker rooms, shelters, in-patient drug treatment facilities, prisons and jails, etc. These resources share about current efforts in New York to make gender-segregated facilities safer and more accessible for transgender and gender non-conforming people, and provide models and tools for activists and others doing this work elsewhere.

A guide for group care facilities serving transgender and gender non-conforming youth

A pioneering new report authored by the National Center for Lesbian Rights (NCLR) and the Sylvia Rivera Law Project (SRLP) urges group care facilities to reassess their treatment of transgender and gender non-conforming youth and to adopt policies and practices that provide these youth with appropriate, fair and equal care.

Toilet Training

Toilet Training is a documentary video addressing the persistent discrimination, harassment, and violence that people who transgress gender norms face in gender segregated bathrooms. Using the stories of people who have been harassed, arrested or beaten for trying to use bathrooms, Toilet Training focuses on bathroom access in public space, in schools, and at work.
